The Health Ministry Empowerment Tour is a collaborative effort presented by IMARA Woman Magazine and Select Health of South Carolina. In 2002, IMARA launched the IMARA Lifestyle Empowerment Tour. Each year, the tour targeted three locations and featured health screenings and life management workshops for women in rural communities. In 2003, the IMARA Lifestyle Empowerment Tour caught the attention of Select Health, who at the time was hosting a similar one-day event: the SC Health Ministry Program for Women. Because the Health Ministry Program and the Lifestyle Empowerment tour shared the same mission of empowering and encouraging women of color in underserved communities, IMARA and Select Health decided to partner in an effort to maximize resources and reach a larger captive audience. The partnership has paid off. The Health Ministry Empowerment tour now reaches nearly 1000 women each year and is a free event serving women in rural communities throughout the state.
